Crocuses are often the first garden flowers of the year, and for this honour you could choose no better than Crocus ‘Spring Beauty’. It makes a beautiful start to the year of garden colour, with its lilac petals, flamed and feathered dark reddish-brown on the outside. The insides of the petals are of a paler lavender-purple, which contrast nicely with the flower’s pale-yellow anthers. The blooms of Crocus minimus ‘Spring Beauty’ are quite small, but they compensate for this by being produced in such profusion—especially with more established clumps.Â
By all means plant your crocus bulbs in beds and borders—but they will need to be at the front! However, the small stature of these plants means that they are best viewed either en masse or close-up—therefore naturalising them in a grassed area, or growing them in patio containers, or small pots for enjoying in a conservatory, are top of our recommendations.
