The whiteness of Tulip ‘Calgary’ is enhanced by having cream blushes, slight green veining at the base, and flushed yellow stamens in the centre. It has been around for a few years, and has gained a high reputation for being tolerant of a wide range of garden conditions.
It is a shorter-stemmed tulip (at just 22cm / 9″ all), which makes this variety most suitable for exposed or windy gardens. It also has the extremely useful ability to shrug off wind and rain. The petals tend to stay in place longer than most other tulips, too! The white flowers stand out well against the dark green foliage. Plant it in beds, borders or patio pots.Â
This sturdy award-winning Tulip might be a bit shorter than other Tulips, but what its stem lacks in length it makes up for in sturdiness and strength making it better able to resist wind and rain. Its lower height makes it an ideal contender for the front row in a bed of other mid to late spring flowering Tulips. Tulip ‘Calgary’ is in Division 3, known as the Triumph Group.
Importantly, it has received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions, and a good performing plant.
