Tulip ‘Crunchy Cummins’ is truly a unique, fringed tulip; fringed group tulips are all single-flowered cultivars, with petals that are edged with coarse, crystal-shaped fringes, usually in white. With this new and rare-to-find cultivar, the late-blooming flowers change colour, almost before your eyes!
Tulip ‘Crunchy Cummins’ open into a warm, dusky purple, and change to brighter purple-pink as they age. At the edges of the petals are the white fringes that are slightly more prominent than those of its ancestors. These fringes are why Group 7 tulips are so sought after (there are 15 Tulip Groups, each Group displaying different characteristics and features). The wide leaves are soft-green, and arching, typical of the tulip family!
This tulip will make a superb cut-flower, and will look spectacular as a drift of bulbs in a bed or border, or planted with a mix of other tulips and spring bedding plants in patio containers. The colouring of Tulip ‘Crunchy Cummins’ looks particularly good with yellow, orange and white tulip varieties.Â
