What a beautiful tulip this is. Tulip ‘Yume no Murasaki’ is a graceful lily-flowered variety, initially it has a fluted shape. Then, its long, slender petals arch over and splay outwards as they open wide. On sunny days, the rich purple petals open to reveal a contrasting base of pure white, with bright yellow stamens. Tulip ‘Yume no Murasaki’ appreciates a sunny position, but it also gives a good account of itself in part shade. It grows to 50-55cm in height, and is good in beds, borders or patio containers. Â
It combines well with many mid and late tulips, especially those with contrasting yellow, orange or white colours. The blooms last a long time—both in the garden and when used as a cut flower: the long stems make this most suitable for vase decoration. Tulip ‘Yume no Murasaki’ (which is sometimes seen as ‘Purple Dream’) is in the Tulip Division 6, also known as the Lily-flowered Group.
